Chrysanthemum cineriifolium -a natural insecticide

Chrysanthemum-public domain image.

Chrysanthemums * or mums come in different species and colours. They are very pretty to look at and used for decorative purposes and also  used to make  a refreshing cup of tea  ( C.indicum) in  East Asia .
The uses of these blossoms don't end here- these beautiful flowers are more useful when dried and powdered.

Chrysanthemum cineriifolium  and C.coccinium have potent pesticidal properties.  The dried flower heads have a substance called Pyrethrum which is comparatively safe when compared to the other insect repelling chemicals. However the commercial versions are made more poisonous by reinforcing it with other chemicals.
