The bean is covered with hair so it is also called" Velvet bean" .It is called Atmagupta in Sanskrit, kiwach in Hindi, Poonaikkali in Tamil and pedda dhoolagondi in Telugu.
Its roots are used a s a nervine tonic and a blood purifier,also used in some gynec disorders .The hairs causes itching and this property also is made use of in Ayurveda.
